The optical spectroscopy lab utilizes light to study electronic properties of quantum materials. Our focus is on elucidating the role of interactions and symmetries in generating fundamentally new phases of matter. To this end we use both far-field and near-field optical spectroscopy that enables the study of quantum materials on different energy and length scales.
